Manuela Gioia, studied architecture at the University of Florence in Italy & graduated with Honours in 2005. She has worked for several high profile firms in Italy, Spain & Australia before founding Terra Design Lab in 2015.
Francesco Simoncini graduated at Bologna University in 2004. He is an environmental engineer, specialising in: reducing energy use in buildings with renewable & alternative energy production as well as sustainable construction materials & waste management.
Doust St, Hilton – Owner Builder
This small straw bale home with GREB mortar was passively designed with double glazed window & recycled wooden floor boards. The completed home features a solar hot water system, PV panels & grey water recycling, achieving a 9 star NATHERS rating. During the construction of this home workshops were held to share this project & teach the straw bale construction method to the local community & interested friends. The finished result has created a place of encounters for sharing & working for the residents & the local community.
Traylen Rd, Bayswater – Owner Builder
This two storey hempcrete home has been passively designed utilising the northern orientation of the block, the thermal mass of concrete flooring, reflective roofing & double glazed windows. It is currently under construction by the owners.
