I’m Heading to America for the 500 Communities Program
I’ve been accepted as 1 out of 12 to attend the 500 Communities program in Nevada City, USA. This is a training program facilitated by expert cohousing consultant Katie McCamant from CoHousing Solutions (USA). I’ve also incredibly grateful to have been offered a part scholarship to help me get over there, I need it! This is great recognition of my work & will provide a unique opportunity for me to connect with & learn from those that lead the way around the world in cohousing.
Imagine… a world where cohousing becomes the new normal. Imagine every town of more than 50,000 people has at least one senior cohousing community and one intergenerational community. Imagine 100 communities created in the next five to ten years in the Australia alone. If this is to become a reality, many people with many talents must become involved in creating communities.
About the program
The 500 Communities Program is for passionate entrepreneurs who want to devote themselves to the goal of building the next 500 cohousing communities, in the United States, or the next 100 cohousing communities in Australia, while working collaboratively, supporting each other and making a living. The program is facilitated by Katie McCamant, president from CoHousing Solutions. Over the last three decades, Katie McCamant has consulted on, designed or developed dozens of cohousing communities. Having worked with small and large, urban and rural, developer driven and group developed communities, she learned the keys to building strong, environmentally and financially sustainable communities.
Through this Program, Katie is formalizing what she’s been doing for years informally: training other collaborators to grow the ability of CoHousing Solutions to meet the expanding need for professional support in creating new communities.
I’ve applied for, and been accepted into the 2018 500 Communities Program and am the only representative from Australia. While I have been given a part scholarship I still need help funding the rest of the cost of the program as well as my travel and living expenses. If anyone can possibly help, big or small, I’m accepting contributions of all sizes and look forward to telling everyone how you’ve supported me to create more community living in Australia.
